THE GAME
WHAT IT IS
A horror roleplaying game for three to five people and one GM, set in America in 1987. A campaign runs five or six sessions and then it's finished. You need two six-sided dice and this book.
THE TAPE
A company nobody remembers made films. Features, television pilots, commercials, children's programming. Then it stopped existing, and what it made is still out there — in car boot sales, in the back of shops, in boxes at the tip.
Watch one all the way through and you are in the credits.
WHAT THE FILM DOES
It isn't finished. It finishes itself out of the town it's in: the people, the buildings, the weather, the records. A girl who went missing last year becomes the girl who goes missing in the film. A farmhouse becomes the farmhouse. And the people who try to stop it end up in it, because they're the most interesting thing in the room.
WHAT YOU DO ABOUT IT
You can't stop a film being made. You can make it a worse film.
Take away the girl it wanted and it settles for somebody duller. Burn the house it needed and it shoots in a garage. Deny it enough and it wraps before it's ready — and a film that wraps early doesn't deliver what the title promised. It gets shelved. Nobody rents it. That's how this ends well.
WHAT IT COSTS
Everybody who helps you ends up in it. The neighbour who lets you in. The deputy who looks the other way. You don't choose who gets cast — you cast them by involving them, and you find out afterwards, when their name is on the back of the box.
By the third session you'll be picking people nobody will miss. That's the game.
